ENRICHMENT & CULTURAL CURRICULUM

We provide our primary learners with a variety of enrichment opportunities throughout the school year, giving all our pupils exposure to knowledge and experiences not necessarily covered in the academic curriculum. These take the form of:

  • Character building experiences
  • Learning experiences
  • After-school clubs
  • Drop-down days
  • Trips, visits and visitors

Why do our pupils need enrichment?

We do not assume that our pupils will all have access to the same experiences and therefore we must ensure that we are providing them.

These experiences intend to provide a meaningful context to learning and intend to bring ‘learning to life’ for the pupils and allow them to make further links in their knowledge. Through these experiences, children are also able to develop key life skills such as: how to use transport systems; how to plan journeys; self-care and looking after property; interacting with others of different ages and backgrounds; how to conduct themselves in public and be good citizens.

In preparing pupils for university and to be future leaders in the community, when a pupil leaves Heyford Park, they leave with a knowledge and understanding of the world that allows them to access the best opportunities. In addition, they also leave with a deep understanding of themselves and the impact their choices have on their own lives and their community.

Our cultural curriculum prepares students for a life beyond school and to be leaders in their community by:

  • Instilling a sense of enjoyment and fascination in learning about themselves, others and the world around them.
  • Encouraging a use of imagination and creativity in their learning, and a willingness to reflect on their own experiences.
  • Giving pupils the opportunity to develop an appreciation of wider cultural influences and the opportunity to recognise, understand and celebrate diversity.
